Rainbows in Junior infants

This week we were learning all about rainbows. We learned they have seven colours- red, yellow, orange, blue, indigo, violet and green. They only appear when the sun is out and it is about to rain. Sometimes you might see more then one rainbow in the sky at a time. We heard a lovely story called What Makes a Rainbow as well. We also learned this poem:

This is the rainbow, with colours so bright,

That bridges the sky, when the sun comes out.

This is the cloud, that is heavy and black,

That falls down as rain with a pit-a-pat.

This is the moon that shines in the night,

And these are the stars, all twinkling bright.

The forest child: Senior infants

Today teacher read us a really interesting story about a forest child.  We acted out little bits of it, and we chatted about what it would be like to be brought up by animals, like the little girl in the story.  We chose whether we'd prefer to be the Forest girl, or the Forest boy.  Most of us just wanted to be what we are in real life, but teacher wanted to be the boy, so she could live with both the animals and the humans.  After we finished reading and talking about the story, we made a sound collage.  Each of us had to make sounds that we can hear in the forest, then we tried making the sounds louder or softer by watching teacher's signals.  It was a lot of fun, and we felt like we were really in a forest.

The Boy Explorer: Senior Infants

An eight foot tall Boy Explorer is coming to visit us next week!
He has lost his imagination and he sent us a letter asking the children to help him think up brilliant ideas again - ideas about new inventions and ways of making Ireland a better place. The children have gotten lots and lots of very brilliant ideas to share with him - they drew pictures of flying machines and robots that cut your hair,of remote control cake baking machines and supermarkets filled with free food!
They had wonderful ideas about making Ireland a better place - picking up litter,planting more trees and flowers, sharing food and toys and money with people who don't have much, giving money to homeless people so that they can find somewhere to live,being kind to animals,making new friends.........the list went on and on.

I think the boy will have no problem getting his imagination back when he meets his new very inspired and inspiring 5 and 6 year old friends in Renmore...

Cloaks for the Boy Explorer: Senior Infants

The Boy Explorer is going on a journey to Dublin.We did handprints on felt to cover his cloak and keep him warm on his journey and remind him of his friends when he gets lonely.He is coming to pick them up off us next Tuesday.

Violins in Senior Infants

The children took turns playing notes on a violin this week and agreed that they all made a much better sound than their teacher (who has just started to learn and who agreed!)

Music in the Classroom: Senior Infants

We went to Leisureland last Tuesday to see the the RTE Concert Orchestra as part of Music in the Classroom. It was simply superb. We had done a lot of preparation in class for the event over the past few weeks and we knew all the songs and loved joining in and participating. It was wonderful to see such an amazing orchestra perform and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Well done to the RTE concert Orchestra and all those involved in organising the event. A big thank you also to Miss Kearney and Mrs Cunningham for coming along with us.

Making Playdough

We made playdough by mixing together flour, oil, cornflour, salt and food dye.
