Drama with Judith

Thursday, April 29th, 2010
Today Judith came to our class and did some drama with us. She got us to do a very lively warm-up session to music, then we played some word and action copying games. They were fun. Lastly she introduced us to her shy friend Mersheen. He is a puppet and he is lovely. He shook our hands, gave us hugs and danced for us. Thank you Judith for such a great drama class.

Oisín in Tír na nÓg in Room 5

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

We learned the story of Oisín in Tír na nÓg today. It is an Irish legend and it is very interesting. We listened to the story, then mimed it out. Here are some photos of the mimes. Click on the page to see the photos in larger form.

Volcanoes and Pop up flowers in Room 5

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010
We like to talk about things happening around us. We have been talking about the volcano in Iceland. Teacher showed us a great video of a helicopter flying over the volcano, and we saw great photos (you can see them too by clicking the links on our History and Geography page under the heading - Volcanoes).
Today we painted our own volcanoes. We think they look really realistic!

We are also talking about forces, pushing and pulling. We thought it would be very interesting to make a toy that worked by pushing and pulling it - a toy made with a lever. Since we have just planted lots of seeds, we thought a flower would be suitable.
Here is a flower, made from a toilet roll and card, which can shrink and grow, not by watering it, but by using its lever (a skewer) to push and pull it. Why not try making one at home?

Easter Eggs

Easter is coming. We painted Easter Eggs today. We used lots of nice colours and patterns.

Easter Chicks

Look at our yellow easter chicks. We made them using crepe paper, glue and paper plates. Here we are ready to take them home.

Rice Krispie Nests

Easter is here and we are doing lots of nice things in the classroom. Today we all helped to make rice krispie nests. First we talked about our ingredients. We used cooking chocolate and rice krispies. First we broke up the hard chocolate and put it into a bowl. We put the bowl into the microwave and the chocolate melted and went soft. We used many words to describe the chocolate like "soft, watery, chocolatey, smooth ". We poured rice krispies in and we mixed the chocolate and the rice krispies together. Then we poured the mixture into bun cases. We all helped. Then we put a little chick into the nest and we left them in the fridge. They went hard and we took them home on Friday. We can't wait to eat them!!!!
