Autumn Scarecrows

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009
Room 5
We have been talking about scarecrows, and making them too. We know they are used by farmers to keep birds (not just crows) away from the crops. Scarecrows are usually made from real old clothes, and straw,
but we made our scarecrows by colouring in a picture of a scarecrow, then cutting it out and sticking it with glue, hessian patches and paper straw onto coloured paper. They look great.

Autumn Art

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009
Sarah brought us in some wonderful autumn leaves today. We love their colours - red, yellow, green, red and black. Mercy brought in some brown ones yesterday. We based our art on these autumn leaves. We made an autumn tree by painting the trunk and using a collage of crepe paper for the leaves. We also made some nice leaf rubbings using the side of crayons. We could really see the veins of each leaf when we rubbed over them with our crayons.

Bark Rubbings

Monday, September 14th, 2009
Senior infants, Room 5
After our bug hunting we had a look at the bark of the trees at the back of the senior school.
The patterns on the bark are interesting so we took some bark rubbings - we rubbed crayons over the pages we held against the bark of the trees. The rubbings we got are very interesting. We hope to make rubbings of trees near our homes too.

September Art

Senior Infants
We have been busy in Room 5. We have a lot of budding artists in this class. So far this month we have made and dressed teddy bears (we had to colour, cut and stick the bears) and Autumn Trees (we had to paint the trees, then make leaves by drawing around leaf templates and finally stick the leaves on our trees). Don't they look wonderful when they are finished?
