Many people put up their Christmas trees and decorations on December 8th.
We painted nice Christmas trees, and decorated them with faces, stars and glitter. They look great.

We also made very cute snowmen out of socks. They are all different.....just like us!

We have made great calendars for next year. We recycled old Christmas cards to get such lovely insides. We also painted some lovely Christmas angels, then decorated them with bits of ribbons, tinfoil and stars. They look lovely.

It is Advent and we are busy preparing for Christmas. We have an Advent calendar in our classroom, and we also have fun with the calendar from the interactive whiteboard on http://www.helpkidzlearn.com/advent_calendar/advent_calendar.shtm We know the Christmas story, and today we made lovely crib pictures to remind us of the true meaning of Christmas. We have made nice papier mache Santa faces, and we will make lots more Christmas art in December

Messy Art Work

Last week we started some messy art projects. We made super rockets out of clay, and we started making Santa faces out of papier mache. There are lots of ways of making the pasted for papier mache. Our teacher makes the paste from flour and water. It smelled quite like baking as it dried over the radiators. We can't wait to finish these projects this week.

More Roaring Rockets

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009We made more rockets in art today. We each got a black sheet of paper, onto which we wrote our names, cut out felt pieces to make a rocket, used coloured wool for the fire blasting out of the rocket, then used potato prints to add stars, moons and planets to our pictures. We would love to be blasting off to space in the rockets we made.

Art: Umbrellas and Rockets

We did some wonderful art this week. We painted umbrella, then decided that they would be better umbrellas if they were waterproof, so we covered them with a layer of plastic. They look great and are waterproof as well.We also did a really nice space scene this week. We used marbling ink to turn our plain white pages into lovely patterns, then we cut out these pages into circles to look like planets. We painted or coloured rockets, and stuck these on to our space scene with the planets. They look really fabulous!

Colour Wheels

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009
Room 5
We made nice colour wheel pictures. We coloured the picture, and then painted the drum. Teacher showed us where to put the red, yellow and blue paints. Then we started mixing colours. We discovered that red and yellow make orange, red and blue make purple and yellow and blue make green. We enjoyed the mixing. Someone even discovered that if you mix all the colours together you can make brown. Later in the day we used the colours that we had mixed to paint snakes. Teacher has plans for the snakes. We might be using them for science when we cut them out!

October 2009
Senior Infants in Room 5 are busy preparing for Hallowe'en. We have already done some nice art work in preparation. We cut and stuck scarey skeletons, and we painted, cut and decorated pumpkins. More to do yet in the time left before Hallowe'en.........watch this space!
We painted and cut out great witch masks this week. We hung them looking out our window. When teacher pulled the blinds we could see the really interesting shadows that those witches and our painted tree make.

Our Hallowe'en spiders are done. We made them out of clay, google eyes and pipe cleaners. We painted them black and varnished them with glue. They look great. We did some Hallowe'en prints with sponges. We printed black bats, orange pumpkins and white ghosts. Booo!

Autumn Tree

Thursday, October 1st, 2009 We have a fantastic tree painted onto our classroom window. We will change it to match the seasons. It is autumn now so we cut out leaves to stick on the tree, and also falling to the ground "TĂ¡ na duilleoga ag titim"! The leaves are red, orange, yellow, brown, black and only a few green ones.

Autumn Scarecrows

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009
Room 5
We have been talking about scarecrows, and making them too. We know they are used by farmers to keep birds (not just crows) away from the crops. Scarecrows are usually made from real old clothes, and straw,
but we made our scarecrows by colouring in a picture of a scarecrow, then cutting it out and sticking it with glue, hessian patches and paper straw onto coloured paper. They look great.

Autumn Art

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009
Sarah brought us in some wonderful autumn leaves today. We love their colours - red, yellow, green, red and black. Mercy brought in some brown ones yesterday. We based our art on these autumn leaves. We made an autumn tree by painting the trunk and using a collage of crepe paper for the leaves. We also made some nice leaf rubbings using the side of crayons. We could really see the veins of each leaf when we rubbed over them with our crayons.

Bark Rubbings

Monday, September 14th, 2009
Senior infants, Room 5
After our bug hunting we had a look at the bark of the trees at the back of the senior school.
The patterns on the bark are interesting so we took some bark rubbings - we rubbed crayons over the pages we held against the bark of the trees. The rubbings we got are very interesting. We hope to make rubbings of trees near our homes too.
